Introduction & official website
JEE (Advanced) is the second stage of the Joint Entrance Examination and the only route to B.Tech, B.S., dual-degree and B.Arch seats at the 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). It is conducted by one of seven zonal IITs each year under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB).
| Official website | jeeadv.ac.in (registration, admit card, response sheet, answer key, result) |
|---|---|
| Conducted by | Joint Admission Board through the organising IIT (rotates among IIT Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) |
| JEE Advanced 2026 | Organised by IIT Roorkee; held on 17 May 2026; result on 1 June 2026 |
| JEE Advanced 2027 | IIT Delhi is next in the rotation; JAB will confirm the organising IIT and dates |
| Mode | Computer Based Test (CBT); two compulsory papers on the same day |
| Languages | English and Hindi |
| Counselling | JoSAA (josaa.nic.in) for IIT seats; Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) for B.Arch |
| Also used by | IISc Bengaluru (B.S.), IISERs, IIST Thiruvananthapuram, RGIPT Amethi, IIPE Visakhapatnam and others for selected programmes |
Purpose of the exam
JEE Main screens about 2.5 lakh candidates; JEE Advanced then ranks them for IIT admission. A Common Rank List (CRL) and category rank lists are published, and only candidates who clear both the subject-wise and the aggregate qualifying marks receive a rank.

How to read this table
Figures without a sign are JoSAA 2026 final-round (Round 5) closing ranks as reported by Cracku and Shiksha (IIT Kanpur Electrical and IIT Bombay Electrical are 2026 Round 2 and 2025 final figures). Figures marked ≈ are rounded estimates built from 2025–26 trends and are only a guide. “—” means that branch is not offered as a separate B.Tech. Mock tests and previous year papers
- Official mock tests on jeeadv.ac.in show the exact CBT interface — practise both papers back-to-back on the same day.
- Past papers: the organising IITs publish question papers and answer keys on jeeadv.ac.in; solve 2026 first, then earlier years.
- Partial marking: in multiple-correct questions, mark only the options you are sure of — one wrong option can cost −2.
- Subject cut-off: you must clear the minimum in each subject, so do not neglect your weakest subject.
FAQs & helpline
How many attempts are allowed for JEE Advanced?
Two attempts in two consecutive years.
Is JEE Main score added to JEE Advanced?
No. JEE Main only decides eligibility; IIT seats are allotted on the JEE Advanced rank.
Is there negative marking in JEE Advanced?
Usually yes, in MCQ-type questions; numerical questions generally have none. The scheme is announced in each paper’s instructions.
What if I clear the aggregate but not one subject?
You will not get a rank. Both the subject-wise and the aggregate minimums must be met.
Can I write JEE Advanced if I was admitted to an IIT earlier?
No, if you accepted an IIT seat earlier you are not eligible, even if that admission was cancelled.
Is the 75% Class 12 criterion needed?
Yes, for IIT admission: 75% (65% for SC/ST/PwD) or top 20 percentile of your board.
Which IIT will conduct JEE Advanced 2027?
IIT Delhi is next in the rotation; JAB will confirm it with the official schedule.
Do IISc and IISERs use JEE Advanced?
Yes, for selected programmes, but you apply and are counselled separately on their own portals.
